An explosion caused by a cluster munition left behind in Oddar Meanchey province, Cambodia, injured three power company

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On January 29th, Heng Raodanar, Director of the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), confirmed that a cluster munition left over from war exploded in Oddar Meanchey province that morning, injuring three power company workers to varying degrees. The injured have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

  According to Heng Raodanar, the incident occurred in Banteay Anpheng district, Oddar Meanchey province. At the time of the incident, three power company workers were conducting on-site work when they accidentally triggered an unexploded cluster munition left over from the war, causing an explosion. It has been confirmed that the munition was remnant of war left behind during the Thai military's invasion and attacks on Cambodia.

  In response to this incident, Heng Raodanar issued an urgent safety appeal to the public, emphasizing that villagers, private sector employees, and government officials living and working in areas affected by explosive remnants of war must remain highly vigilant and take precautions to prevent similar accidents.

  Hung Lot-dana also urged all personnel to maintain close cooperation with local authorities and the Cambodian Mine Action Center, and to consult and report to relevant departments in advance before entering potentially hazardous areas. Through multi-party collaboration, efforts can be made to prevent safety accidents caused by explosive remnants of war and avoid a recurrence of such tragedies. (End)
