Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The National Bank of Cambodia and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 10th, aiming to jointly promote Cambodia's digitalization process and build a solid security barrier against telecom fraud.
The core measure of the MOU is to cross-verify SIM card identities using bank or payment account information, aiming to eliminate fraudulent activities using unregistered phone numbers at the source and effectively protect the public's property security.
National Bank Governor Chea Siree announced on her social media that this inter-departmental cooperation aims to strengthen the verification of telephone user identities and prevent criminals from using fake or unregistered numbers to engage in various illegal and criminal activities.
She emphasized that this cooperation marks an important step forward for Cambodia in deepening regulatory collaboration in the financial and telecommunications sectors and building a long-term anti-fraud mechanism.
Governor Chea Siree also issued an urgent appeal to the public, reminding them to remain highly vigilant and guard against new types of fraud: do not click on links or websites from unknown sources, be cautious about online investment invitations; never transfer money to unknown individuals, disclose personal information, or sell your bank accounts and phone numbers. She said that current fraud methods are constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated. Common methods include impersonating national leaders to forge information, or impersonating relatives or friends to ask for loans; posing as bank or company employees to solicit upfront fees under the guise of offering rewards or jobs; and inducing or coercing others to sell their bank accounts or mobile phone numbers at exorbitant prices for fraudulent activities.
President Xie Silei emphasized that the public should improve their ability to identify scams, avoid falling into fraud traps, and effectively protect their personal property and information security.
