Smith, the newly appointed British Military Attaché to Cambodia. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on the current situation on the Cambodian-Thailand border and humanitarian issues.
During the meeting, Colonel Smith expressed deep concern about the recent border situation. He strongly urged Thailand to immediately release the 18 Cambodian soldiers who have been detained for over 100 days. Colonel Smith emphasized that, according to international humanitarian law, the individuals should be released as soon as possible to ensure their early reunification with their families.
Furthermore, regarding the tragic killing of a Cambodian citizen by Thai forces during the border clash on November 12, Colonel Smith, on behalf of the British side, expressed deep condolences to the victim's family and the Cambodian side.
Regarding humanitarian aid, Colonel Smith confirmed that he would soon travel to the refugee camp in Banteay Meanchey province in his capacity as military attaché to Cambodia to conduct an on-site inspection and actively coordinate resources to assist in the safe evacuation of Cambodian citizens stranded in the area due to the border conflict.
Commander-in-Chief Vong Pisen briefed the British side on the latest situation in the Cambodian-Thailand border region. He reiterated that the Cambodian government consistently adheres to the principle of peacefully resolving disputes through existing mechanisms and is committed to achieving lasting peace and stability in the border region.
Colonel Smith agreed with this, noting that the international community is closely monitoring developments at the border. He expressed support and appreciation for Cambodia's restraint and strict adherence to international law in this incident.
