Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On November 14, 2025, the Cambodian Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China hosted a symposium in Phnom Penh for the Cambodian overseas Chinese community to celebrate the establishment of the Taiwan Retrocession Day. Representatives of overseas Chinese organizations and members of the overseas Chinese community from all walks of life celebrated the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's retrocession and jointly issued a statement supporting the establishment of "Taiwan Retrocession Day," demonstrating their firm opposition to "Taiwan independence" and their support for the complete reunification of the motherland.

The symposium opened with a documentary short film, "Blood Ties and Mountains and Seas," which showcased the shared blood ties between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, resonating strongly with the overseas Chinese community.

Zhao Haiyan, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, pointed out that the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress's legal designation of October 25 as "Taiwan Retrocession Day" is a confirmation of history and legal principles, reflecting a firm will to safeguard national sovereignty. She emphasized that Taiwan's retrocession was a victory in the War of Resistance against Japan, and that "Taiwan independence" separatism and external interference endanger stability across the Taiwan Strait. Overseas Chinese in Cambodia should clarify the history that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China and unite their forces against "independence" and for reunification.

Huang Ruihua, Executive Vice President of the Cambodian Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, stated that establishing a commemorative day is of great significance; Taiwan's membership in China is irrefutable proof, and the overseas Chinese community will firmly oppose "independence" and spread historical truth. Shi Yongping, President of the Zhejiang General Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, stated that the mainland's punishment of die-hard "Taiwan independence" elements demonstrates its determination for reunification. Wu Xuanhui called on young overseas Chinese to remember their mission and contribute to reunification. Zhong Yaohui stated that the Cambodian Chinese Association will strengthen national identity and promote the history of retrocession through Chinese language education.

At the meeting, representatives of the overseas Chinese community jointly read the "Initiative of Cambodian Overseas Chinese to Oppose 'Independence' and Promote Reunification," reiterating their adherence to the one-China principle, opposition to "Taiwan independence," and support for the peaceful reunification of the motherland, and expressing their commitment to contributing to the complete reunification of the motherland and the rejuvenation of the nation.
