Attendees at the summit included His Excellency Roger V. Navarro, Undersecretary of Agriculture of the Republic of the Philippines; Jeremy Zwinger, President and CEO of Rice Traders; Ms. Yvonne Pinto, Director of the International Rice Research Institute; His Excellency Oknia; leaders from relevant ministries and agencies; and many distinguished domestic and international guests.
First, the Minister expressed his pleasure at participating in and co-hosting the 2025 World Rice Congress, chaired by His Excellency Prince Maha Prasad Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and His Excellency Sok Cheddar Sopaya, Deputy Prime Minister and High Representative. He warmly welcomed the leaders, delegations, and distinguished guests from relevant ministries and agencies around the world, reflecting the shared commitment to promoting a sustainable and prosperous future for rice, one of humanity's most important food crops.
The Minister stated that this year's World Rice Summit holds special significance for Cambodia, showcasing Cambodia's prominent position in the global rice community and reaffirming Cambodia's commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and sustainable growth to shape the future of rice production.
The Minister also emphasized that Cambodia will continue to closely monitor potential challenges: the complexity of import regulations, high tariffs, and transportation issues hindering access to new markets. However, the Ministry of Commerce will continue to address these challenges through trade negotiations, digital transformation, and dialogue between the public and private sectors.
Before the conference concluded, the Minister took this opportunity to invite all participants, investors, and international business leaders to connect with key institutions and explore investment opportunities in sustainable trade and innovation within Cambodia's rice industry.
Also note that the Ministry of Commerce has officially launched the "Cambodia Rice Export Market Expansion and Diversification Strategy 2025-2030," which serves as a roadmap for strengthening Cambodian rice's position on the international stage, aiming to diversify export targets and enhance competitiveness.
