Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On January 7, 2026, the Huangshi Intermediate People's Court of Hubei Province publicly announced its first-instance verdict in the bribery case of Wang Hao, former member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Wang Hao was sentenced to thirteen years imprisonment for bribery and fined RMB 4 million. All proceeds of Wang Hao's bribery and any interest accrued were confiscated and turned over to the national treasury.
The court found that from 2008 to 2024, Wang Hao, taking advantage of his positions as a member of the Standing Committee of the Xuzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Xuzhou Municipal Government, Vice Mayor of Xuzhou, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chairman of the Xuzhou Municipal CPPCC, Deputy Secretary of the Suqian Municipal Committee of the CPC, Acting Mayor and Mayor of Suqian, Secretary of the Suqian Municipal Committee of the CPC, and member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial CPPCC, provided assistance to relevant units and individuals in matters such as project contracting and qualification application, directly or through others, illegally accepting bribes totaling more than RMB 46.31 million.
The Huangshi Intermediate People's Court held that the defendant Wang Hao's actions constituted the crime of bribery, with the amount of bribes being particularly large, and should be punished according to law. However, given that his bribery crime involved attempted bribery; that he truthfully confessed his crimes after being apprehended, proactively disclosed some bribery facts not yet known to the investigating authorities; that he pleaded guilty and showed remorse, actively returned the ill-gotten gains, and that all the bribes and their proceeds had been recovered, he could be given a lighter sentence according to law. The court thus rendered the above judgment.
It is reported that the Huangshi Intermediate People's Court held a public hearing on the case on September 10, 2025. During the trial, the prosecution presented relevant evidence, which was examined by the defendant Wang Hao and his defense counsel. Both the prosecution and the defense fully expressed their opinions under the court's guidance. Wang Hao made a final statement and pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in court. More than 30 people, including representatives of the National People's Congress, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, relatives of the defendant, and members of the public, attended the trial.
