Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Guangzhou New Airport project broke ground on the 25th in Gaoming District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province.

The total investment for this phase of the project is 41.808 billion yuan (RMB), of which 35.909 billion yuan is for the airport itself. It will include two parallel runways, a terminal building with a floor area of approximately 260,000 square meters, 94 aircraft stands, and corresponding supporting facilities. It is expected to meet the operational needs of 30 million passengers, 500,000 tons of cargo and mail, and 260,000 aircraft takeoffs and landings annually.

The new airport is located in Gaoming District, Foshan City, aiming to optimize the "east-strong, west-weak" airport structure of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area airport cluster, completing a crucial piece of the puzzle for the Greater Bay Area's world-class airport cluster and exploring new models of coordinated development. Upon completion, the new airport will directly serve more than 20 million people in Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, and surrounding areas, while complementing and developing synergistically with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

Guangdong currently has nine civil transport airports. In 2025, the province's civil aviation passenger throughput reached 182 million, and cargo and mail throughput reached 4.59 million tons, both ranking first in the country. After the completion of the new Guangzhou airport, Guangdong will have three international aviation hub airports. Combined with the airports in Hong Kong and Macau, the Greater Bay Area's global passenger throughput capacity will exceed 400 million, and its cargo and mail throughput will exceed 15 million tons.
