Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The 9th Central Documents Translation and Research Forum opened on the 29th at Tianjin Foreign Studies University.
The forum was jointly hosted by the Sixth Research Department of the Central Party History and Literature Research Institute and Tianjin Foreign Studies University (Central Documents Translation and Research Base), with the journal *Foreign Theoretical Trends* as a co-organizer. Experts and scholars from over thirty institutions and universities attended the opening ceremony.
The theme of this forum was "Translation and International Dissemination of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era: Guiding and Empowering," aiming to deeply explore the translation and international dissemination practices of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, while also bringing together translation scholars and research experts from home and abroad to share the latest research findings on the translation of central documents.
Qing Xuemin, Director of the Sixth Research Department of the Central Party History and Literature Research Institute, said at the opening ceremony that central documents are an important carrier for systematically and comprehensively showcasing the theoretical innovations and practical achievements of the Communist Party of China. Their accurate, vivid, and effective translation and dissemination are crucial to shaping the image of the Party and the country, enhancing the country's discourse power, and building a community with a shared future for mankind. To showcase the profound heritage and contemporary relevance of Chinese modernization in translation studies, we must boldly explore the application and ethical boundaries of new technologies such as artificial intelligence in document translation. We must also place ourselves within a broader context of cultural exchange and mutual learning, researching how to innovate the models and channels for translating and disseminating central government documents internationally.
At the opening ceremony, Zhu Pengxiao, Vice President of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, stated that the "15th Five-Year Plan" proposals adopted by the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee clearly put forward a series of deployments, including improving the international communication system and mechanisms, innovating communication carriers and methods, comprehensively enhancing international discourse power, and telling China's story well. These deployments have anchored the direction and clarified the goals for China's international communication work in the new era. This forum closely follows the strategic requirements of the plenary session, aiming to systematically explore the translation practice and dissemination path of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in the global context, and further promote the dissemination of the Party's innovative theories in the international community.
This forum features two keynote speeches and will also include plenary presentations on four themes: "Translation of Central Government Documents and Construction of an International Discourse System," "Translation of 'A Community with a Shared Future for Mankind' and the 'Belt and Road Initiative'," "Theory and Practice of Central Government Document Translation," and "Artificial Intelligence, Translation Technology, and the Translation of Central Government Documents." In addition, the forum also included a thematic sub-forum on "Standardization of Translation of Important Terms in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era," a youth forum, and a doctoral forum, providing ample opportunities for exchange and discussion among participating experts and scholars.
The Central Documents Translation and Research Forum, founded in 2015, has been successfully held eight times. It is a high-level academic event in China focusing on the translation and research of political documents for international audiences. It provides a dialogue platform for in-depth discussions on important issues in the translation and dissemination of central documents, and also serves as an important platform for exchange, cooperation, and the release of research findings among colleagues in this field, contributing to improving the quality of the translation and international dissemination of central documents. Over the years, the forum has achieved positive social impact and fruitful academic results, making significant contributions to building my country's international communication capabilities and discourse system, and constructing a Chinese discourse and narrative system.
This year's forum will conclude on November 30th. (End)
