Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The 48th session of the World Heritage Committee concluded in Busan, South Korea on the 29th. A total of 25 sites were inscribed on the World Heritage List during this session, including the "Site of the Porcelain Works of Jingdezhen".
The session opened on the 19th. According to the announcement, the newly inscribed sites include 19 cultural sites, 5 natural sites, and 1 mixed site, bringing the total number of World Heritage sites to 1273. The "Site of the Porcelain Works of Jingdezhen" became China's 61st World Heritage site.
This session also saw several States Parties incorporating World Heritage sites for the first time, including South Sudan and Comoros. The number of States Parties to the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage with World Heritage sites has now increased to 173.
The Busan World Heritage Declaration was adopted at this session of the Convention. Building upon the existing five strategic objectives of the Convention, the Declaration adds "cooperation" as a new strategic objective, emphasizing strengthened international cooperation to jointly address the multiple challenges facing World Heritage sites, including armed conflict, climate change, and development pressures, and further consolidating global consensus on heritage protection.
