  The report stated that the fighter jet took off from an air force base near Jorhad in Assam, northeastern India, on the evening of the 5th and lost contact with ground control shortly afterward. Local residents reported hearing a loud bang in the nearby mountains, suspected to be a crash in the area. The Indian Air Force confirmed in a statement released on the morning of the 6th that both pilots on board had perished. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

  The Su-30MKI is a two-seat, multi-role, long-range fighter jet developed by Russia's Sukhoi company and produced and delivered to the Indian Air Force by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited under license. Indian media reports indicate that the Indian Air Force possesses more than 260 Su-30MKI fighter jets. This aircraft type has been involved in several accidents previously.
