Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – According to a recent report by Thai media outlet Khaosod, the Thai government has expressed serious concern about the Cambodian film "The Tragedy of Ghost Mountain," which is currently in pre-production. The government believes the film involves sensitive historical events and poses a potential risk of distorting historical facts and misleading public sentiment.

"The Tragedy of Ghost Mountain" is set against the backdrop of historical events in the "Ghost Mountain" region of the Padang Mountains in Cambodia from 1978 to 1980, and the plot involves Thailand's treatment of Cambodian refugees at that time. The Thai government and related agencies expressed concern that the film's artistic portrayal of these "serious atrocities" deviates from historical truth, thereby inciting negative public sentiment towards Thailand and damaging the friendly relations between Cambodia and Thailand.

In response to the Thai concerns, the film's production company immediately issued a formal statement. LD Production Director, Lied Da, released a statement through the official social media account clarifying the situation and urging the public not to be overly concerned.

In a statement, Lie Lida emphasized that the film's script was strictly based on historical facts and was not fabricated out of thin air; the production team adhered to filmmaker ethics, striving to faithfully recreate history through the lens, rather than deliberately creating antagonism between nations. He stated that the core purpose of making the film was to record national memory and uphold national dignity, while also urging the Cambodian public to remain calm and rational when discussing related issues. "For the sake of the nation and dignity, we are fulfilling our responsibilities as filmmakers. Everything we do is based on respect for history," Lie Lida said.

As of now, the cultural and diplomatic departments of Cambodia and Thailand have not exchanged further views on this matter. Analysts point out that the main challenge facing this film, which deals with sensitive topics, will be striking a balance between artistic expression, historical accuracy, and maintaining bilateral relations after its release.
