Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The World Bank announced on the 28th that it has allocated $500 million to support reconstruction efforts in areas of the Philippines severely damaged by Typhoon Hagupit.

According to data from the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Typhoon Hagupit has caused 253 deaths, 502 injuries, and 119 missing persons in the country, affecting more than 5.45 million people nationwide. The typhoon also caused damage to critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, seaports, and airports.

Typhoon Hagupit made landfall in the Philippines on November 4th, and just five days later, Typhoon Fung-wong struck the country again, which the World Bank stated exacerbated the challenges of humanitarian aid and post-disaster reconstruction.

The World Bank stated that the newly approved funds will help the government expand disaster relief efforts, repair damaged infrastructure, and restore basic public services in severely affected areas. (End)
