Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – According to the BBC, the UN Security Council voted on June 6 to approve a US resolution to lift sanctions against Syrian regime leader Ahmed Shah Shah, who will visit the White House next week.
The report states that Shah was previously sanctioned by the UN for leading the HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) group, which had links to al-Qaeda. The US removed HTS from its list of foreign terrorist organizations in July.
The UN also lifted sanctions against Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab.
Shah will meet with US President Trump for the first time in Riyadh in May 2025 during Trump's Middle East trip. In late 2024, Shah's armed group overthrew the previous Syrian regime.
