Islav Islavilov, Director of the Regional Management Center of the Republic of Dagestan, stated that a private helicopter was en route from Kizlyar, a city in northern Dagestan, to Izberbash on the Caspian Sea coast when it crashed near the settlement of Achisu in the Karabdakhkent district. Preliminary reports indicate that the accident resulted in four deaths and three injuries.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the helicopter crashed into an uninhabited building, causing a fire that burned an area of 80 square meters. Sixteen professionals and four pieces of equipment have brought the fire under control, and firefighting efforts are ongoing. Local emergency services personnel are conducting search and rescue operations at the scene.
According to Russian media reports, one of the three injured is in critical condition. The other two people are receiving treatment at the burn center of the Clinical Hospital in the Republic of Dagestan. The crashed helicopter was a Ka-226. Preliminary investigations indicate that the main cause of the accident was likely an engine fire during flight.
