From 2016 to 2025, the annual number of China-Europe freight trains is expected to increase 10.8 times, injecting strong momentum into promoting Asia-Europe economic and trade exchanges and serving the high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative.
According to the Logistics Center of China Railway, since the official launch of the unified branding of China-Europe freight trains on June 8, 2016, the China-Europe freight trains have fully leveraged their advantages of large capacity, all-weather operation, and safety and stability, gaining favor in the international logistics market. The scale of operation has continued to expand, with the annual number of trains increasing from 1,702 in 2016 to 20,022 in 2025, a 10.8-fold increase in 10 years, with an average annual growth rate of 31.5%. According to reports, the types of goods transported by the China-Europe Railway Express have gradually expanded from information technology (IT) products such as mobile phones and computers in its early stages to 53 categories and over 50,000 kinds of commodities, including clothing, footwear, automobiles and parts, grain, wine, coffee beans, and timber. By 2025, the value of goods transported by the China-Europe Railway Express is expected to reach US$67.7 billion, effectively meeting the diverse production and daily life needs of people in countries and regions along the route, and becoming a "fast track" for Chinese-made goods to go global and for European agricultural and livestock products, chemical raw materials, and consumer goods to enter China.
Currently, 129 cities in China have launched China-Europe Railway Express services, reaching 236 cities in 26 European countries, an increase of 113 and 216 cities respectively compared to 2016, essentially covering the entire Eurasian region. (End)
