According to data released on January 12 by the Beijing Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics of China, Beijing's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose month-on-month in January, while the year-on-year increase slowed.
Month-on-month, Beijing's CPI rose 0.3% in January. Among food items, fresh fruit prices rose 2.6%; egg and aquatic product prices rose 2.4% and 2.2% respectively; with ample market supply, fresh vegetable prices, which had risen 4.7%, fell 4.3%; and pork prices fell 0.3%. Among non-food items, industrial consumer goods prices rose 0.6%. Gold jewelry prices rose 8.2%, while gasoline prices fell 1.3%; service prices rose 0.4%, with transportation rentals, airfares, accommodation, and travel agency fees rising by 12.5%, 10.7%, 1.1%, and 0.2% respectively, driven by increased holiday travel demand.
Year-on-year, Beijing's CPI rose 0.1% in January, a decrease of 0.9 percentage points. In the food category, fresh vegetable and fruit prices rose by 10.4% and 1.2% respectively; beef and mutton prices rose by 4.5% and 3.5% respectively; poultry and aquatic product prices rose by 2.4% and 2.0% respectively; while pork and egg prices fell by 15.2% and 10.9% respectively. In the non-food category, industrial consumer goods prices rose by 1.4%. Among these, gold jewelry prices rose by 79.6%, while gasoline prices fell by 11.9%; service prices fell by 0.3%, with travel agency fees, accommodation costs, and airfares falling by 10.6%, 6.2%, and 4.9% respectively.
Data also shows that in January this year, Beijing's industrial producer price index (PPI) fell by 1.9% year-on-year and rose by 0.1% month-on-month; the industrial producer purchase price index (PPI) fell by 1.9% year-on-year and rose by 0.2% month-on-month. (End)
