Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Van Phong in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, strategically located on an international shipping route, boasts natural water depths of 20 to 27 meters, excellent wind protection, and minimal siltation, making it well-suited to become Vietnam's international cargo transshipment hub. The Van Phong Economic Zone, combining strategic vision, exceptional potential, and ambition to expand into the sea, is gradually establishing its position on the maritime economic landscape, ushering in a new era of development for both the region and the nation.

According to the "Master Plan for the Van Phong Economic Zone to 2040, Vision 2050," approved by the Prime Minister on March 27, 2023, the development blueprint for the region is becoming increasingly clear. The plan envisions northern Van Phong developing into a modern, international-class seaside tourist city, a financial-commercial-services center, and a bonded zone; the southern Van Phong coastline will become an industrial-energy-logistics center relying on a deep-water port, simultaneously forming a modern, sustainable seaside city and service chain.

To realize this vision, Khanh Hoa province is focusing its investment resources on improving the regional and port-inter-regional transportation system, connecting Van Phong with key economic zones.

Tran Ho Nam, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that infrastructure is a key factor in attracting investment and a "key" to unlocking development. Once the strategic transportation lines are completed, Van Phong International Port will play its role as a gateway connecting Vietnam with regional and global maritime trade.

In parallel with transportation development, the power supply, water supply, telecommunications, and urban infrastructure of the various functional areas of the economic zone are also being planned.

Nguyen Thanh Phu, Director of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Construction, stated that by 2026, several important zoning plans will be largely completed, laying a solid legal foundation and favorable land conditions for selecting and attracting strategic investors with strong financial resources and experience in implementing large-scale projects. In particular, the inclusion of Van Phong Airport in the national airport plan will truly propel Van Phong to new heights.

Le Hong Phuong, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Provincial Economic and Industrial Zones, stated that with the orderly investment in strategic infrastructure, Van Phong will not only become a destination for large-scale port, logistics, and heavy industry investors, but also a world-class service, tourism, and seaside urban center.

To date, the Van Phong Economic Zone has attracted over 150 investment projects with a total registered capital of approximately US$5.4 billion. Many of these large-scale projects are already operational, creating economic value and employment opportunities, such as the Van Phong No. 1 Thermal Power Plant BOT project (US$2.58 billion), HD Modern Vietnam Shipyard (US$350 million), and the Australis Vietnam Limited project (US$68.19 million). These projects not only drive industrial growth but also foster the formation of logistics and ancillary service value chains within the region.

Furthermore, a series of large-scale tourism and service projects, such as the Hòn Ngang Eco-tourism Area, the Cổ Mã Urban Area, and the Dốc Lết–Phuong Mai Tourism Area, are under investment, contributing to the development of modern, civilized, and synchronously developing seaside cities. Investments are also being made in social infrastructure, resettlement areas, education, and healthcare to ensure the livelihoods of local residents and the workforce.

Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Secretary Ngham Xuan Thanh stated that the province is determined to develop Van Phong into a vibrant, internationally integrated, and sustainable symbol. The province will work alongside businesses to ensure the progress and quality of key projects and create a transparent, convenient, and safe investment environment.

Simultaneously, the province places particular emphasis on promoting environmental protection and sustainable development in tandem, implementing programs to address climate change, the green economy, the circular economy, clean energy, and emissions reduction. Khanh Hoa encourages businesses to apply advanced technologies to production, management, and economic zone operations, moving towards the goal of building a leading green, smart, and environmentally friendly economic zone in Vietnam.

According to the proposed goals, by 2030, the Van Phong Economic Zone will rank among the top three economic zones nationwide, making a significant contribution to the province's and region's GRDP. Looking ahead to 2050, Van Phong will become an international-level marine economic center, playing a leading role in Khanh Hoa's development strategy and becoming the core of Vietnam's marine economy.
