Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Digital food value chains and cross-border e-commerce are a “new highway” for Vietnamese products to directly reach consumers and high-value importers. Industry experts emphasized this at the “Vietnam Food Brands 2025” international conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 12th. The event was jointly organized by the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the e-commerce platform Alibaba.com.

Nguyen Viet An, Deputy Director of the Innovation Support Center (ISC) of the Innovation Agency under the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, pointed out that global online food consumers prioritize factors such as convenience, speed, safety, transparency, trust, price, health, and sustainability. Meanwhile, Vietnam possesses the foundation to enter the online export market through product sourcing, policies, and connections with global e-commerce platforms.

International buyers are also attracted to Vietnamese products with unique flavors, certifications and traceability, regional characteristics, digital images, and reviews.

Regarding digital food value chains and cross-border e-commerce, Nguyen Thanh Duong, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Capacity Development Department of the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, stated that the Vietnamese government has developed a digital trade promotion ecosystem aimed at establishing domestic and international sales channels. The ecosystem boasts a basic shared platform, including trade fairs, digital exhibitions, smart trade connections, specialized trade promotion databases, online consultations, and training.

Currently, the Vietnam Pavilion also serves as a dedicated "Made in Vietnam" section on Alibaba.com, showcasing Vietnamese enterprises, renowned brands, and high-quality products, shaping and promoting the Vietnamese brand image. It also acts as a platform to facilitate trade and enhance international customers' understanding of Vietnamese products and businesses.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang stated that from 2026 to 2030, the Ministry will focus on implementing the "Promoting the Application of Technology in Sustainable Production and Consumption" plan, aiming to produce numerous new green products, strengthen green standards, and promote circular economy development in potential industries, sectors, and regions.

Many businesses have suggested that the national strategy for exporting food through cross-border e-commerce should view it as a strategic channel supplementing traditional exports. Furthermore, cross-border e-commerce should be integrated into policies regarding innovation, the digital economy, digital agriculture, and logistics.

In addition, national regulatory authorities should strengthen the standardization and digitization of traceability and encourage the use of blockchain/IoT in key product groups. (End)
