Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Macao SAR Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Tam Wai Man, stated on the 6th, during a question-and-answer session with members of the Legislative Assembly, that the Macao International Airport reclamation and apron construction project commenced in the first half of 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2030. At that time, the annual passenger capacity of Macao International Airport will increase to 13 million.

Tam Wai Man explained that Macao International Airport has entered a crucial stage of development, with the airport reclamation and expansion project, the construction of the Hengqin forward cargo terminal, and the facility upgrade plan to optimize the passenger experience all progressing smoothly.

Among them, the Hengqin forward cargo terminal officially commenced construction in October 2025. Leveraging Hengqin's policy advantages, the project will allow air cargo to undergo security checks and palletizing at the forward cargo terminal, and then be directly transported to Macao International Airport in a fully sealed manner, effectively improving the efficiency of cross-border air logistics.

Regarding smart infrastructure development, the optimization project of the central security checkpoint in the departure hall of Macau International Airport was completed by the end of 2025. The eight new smart security checkpoints operate smoothly, effectively improving the accuracy of security checks and providing passengers with a more convenient and seamless security experience.

Tam Wai Man stated that the SAR government has consistently supported Macau International Airport and airlines in fully utilizing Macau's abundant air rights to expand flight services to and from Macau. The Civil Aviation Authority continues to review existing flight agreements and actively consults with contracting parties to strive for the relaxation of air rights. The airport concession company is also actively promoting Macau's air rights advantages. Currently, airlines from Qatar, Turkey, and Malaysia are operating all-cargo routes connecting to Macau using fifth freedom rights.

"In the future, we will continue to optimize sea-land-air intermodal transport services, establish service centers in cities within the Greater Bay Area, and set up check-in services within the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge airport terminal to facilitate passenger use of Macau International Airport and enhance its influence," said Tam Wai Man.
