Recently, the Anhui Provincial People's Government approved the "Investigation Report on the Major Poisoning and Asphyxiation Accident at Anhui Xintai New Materials Co., Ltd. in Dongzhi County, Chizhou City on October 27, 2025." At approximately 8:12 PM on October 27, 2025, a major poisoning and asphyxiation accident occurred during the replacement of chilled brine in the refrigerated brine tank of the public works workshop of Anhui Xintai New Materials Co., Ltd., located in Dongzhi County, Chizhou City, resulting in 4 deaths and direct economic losses of 6.0875 million yuan. The accident investigation team determined that this accident was a major production safety liability accident.
The investigation report stated that the direct cause of the accident was that Zhang Moujiang, an employee of Anhui Xintai New Materials Co., Ltd., violated confined space operation safety management regulations. He failed to complete the confined space operation approval procedures and entered the accident-causing cold brine tank without taking safety isolation measures, ventilation, gas detection, or wearing self-contained breathing apparatus, resulting in the inhalation of high concentrations of nitrogen and other gases. Rescue personnel's blind rescue efforts without proper personal protective equipment exacerbated the casualties. Indirect causes included the company's inadequate safety management, lack of oversight and control over special operation safety, and insufficient safety supervision of chemical enterprises by local government and relevant departments.
According to the report, three individuals, including the chairman of Anhui Xintai New Materials Co., Ltd., have been placed under coercive measures by the public security authorities.
