Deputy Director of the Employment Bureau Nguyen Thi Juan announced the 2027 (Dingwei year) Spring Festival vacation plan and the 2026 Vietnam Culture Day vacation solicitation plan, clarifying the differentiated vacation arrangements for public officials and workers in enterprises and institutions, taking into account the operation of public institutions and the actual production and operation of enterprises.
In response to the Lunar New Year in 2027, the Ministry of Interior of Vietnam has officially submitted a vacation proposal to the government, and plans to arrange for public employees to take seven consecutive days of vacation from February 4 to February 10. The program is applicable to cadres, civil servants and on-the-job staff of state administrative agencies and public institutions.
According to the holiday rules, the statutory holiday for the Spring Festival is 5 days, covering 2 days before the holiday and 3 days after the holiday. Since two of the days coincide with weekend rest days, compensatory rest days will be carried out in accordance with regulations, resulting in a seven-day continuous Spring Festival holiday. This plan is formulated in accordance with the relevant provisions of the 2019 Labor Law, aiming to facilitate the return of workers from other places for the holidays and ensure the people's Spring Festival rest needs.
It is reported that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has previously prepared a set of alternative plans for the five-day Spring Festival. It plans to arrange a holiday from February 5 to 14, specifically one day before the holiday and four days after the holiday, and adjust the working day from February 12 to February 27. Currently, the seven-day continuous holiday plan is prioritized.
For workers in social enterprises, the Ministry of Interior of Vietnam gives enterprises the right to choose independently. Employers can choose from two sets of Spring Festival vacation plans based on their own production and operation conditions: the first set is 1 day of leave at the end of the year and 4 days at the beginning of the year; the second set is 2 days of end-of-year leave and 3 days of break at the beginning of the year. At the same time, for special employment scenarios, companies can also choose flexible vacation methods of 3 days at the end of the year and 2 days at the beginning of the year.
In addition to the Spring Festival arrangements, the Ministry of Interior of Vietnam has solicited opinions from the government on the 4-day holiday plan for Vietnam Culture Day in 2026, and simultaneously launched two alternative holiday plans: one is a holiday on November 24, and the working day from November 23 is adjusted to November 28; the second is a holiday directly on November 24, without adjusting the working day. Relevant non-public employees can enjoy full salary benefits in accordance with the law during the Vietnam Culture Day holiday on November 24.
The Ministry of Interior of Vietnam stated that it encourages enterprises to coordinate and arrange employee holidays with reference to the leave standards for public employees, and strictly protect workers' wages and benefits in accordance with the law.
