Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On the morning of April 10, 2026, following a grand welcoming ceremony at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cambodia (CPC), Tran Cam Tu, member of the Politburo and Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and Prince Say Chhum, Vice President of the CPC and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee, held formal talks. The two sides reached broad consensus on consolidating traditional friendship and deepening all-round cooperation.

During the talks, the two leaders emphasized that Vietnam and Cambodia are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, and forged a profound friendship through shared hardships during the struggle for national independence. Under the careful cultivation of successive leaders, bilateral relations have continued to develop steadily, with cooperation in various fields such as political mutual trust, defense and security, trade and investment, education and training, people-to-people exchanges, and local cooperation constantly deepening and becoming more practical. Both sides agreed to continue to effectively implement the important results achieved through high-level visits and various contacts, especially the series of consensuses reached at the meeting of the Standing Committees of the CPC Central Committees during the visit of General Secretary To Lam of Vietnam to Cambodia in February 2026.

The talks clarified that both sides will maintain high-level exchanges and regular meetings and communication at all levels and departments, further consolidating mutual political trust and laying a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations through enhanced information sharing and timely consultations.

Regarding defense and security cooperation, a crucial pillar of bilateral relations, both sides reached a consensus: to strictly implement all existing cooperation agreements and resolutely prevent any force from using its territory to engage in activities against the other country; and to simultaneously strengthen coordination in combating transnational crime, drug trafficking, and high-tech crime, jointly safeguarding the security and stability of both countries and the region.

In terms of economic cooperation, both sides emphasized the need to further increase cooperation in trade and investment, focusing on promoting strategic infrastructure connectivity, especially in transportation, logistics, port construction, and border trade development; and deepening practical cooperation in agriculture, processing, energy, telecommunications, digital transformation, and human resource training. At the same time, both sides agreed to accelerate the relevant work on the remaining border demarcation and marker erection sections, jointly building a peaceful, friendly, and sustainable border. Comrade Tran Kim Tu suggested that Cambodia continue to uphold the principles of friendly consultation, respect for the law, and consideration of each other's legitimate interests, and pay attention to and properly handle matters involving the Vietnamese ethnic group and citizens of both countries, thus removing obstacles to the development of bilateral relations.

Both leaders agreed that it is necessary to continuously strengthen the promotion and education of the fine tradition of Vietnam-Cambodia friendship, resolutely refute all kinds of erroneous statements, and severely crack down on egregious acts that undermine the solidarity and friendship between the two countries. At the multilateral level, both sides will continue to closely coordinate their positions and support each other in ASEAN and other regional cooperation mechanisms, jointly safeguard ASEAN's unity and centrality, and promote the proper resolution of regional issues through dialogue, consultation, pragmatic cooperation, and respect for international law.

At the end of the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to steadfastly maintaining and developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, and to jointly advance preparations for a series of commemorative activities marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027. During the talks, both sides jointly witnessed the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation for 2026-2030 between Gia Lai Province of Vietnam and Ratanakiri Province of Cambodia, and between Stung Treng Province and Preah Vihear Province, injecting new impetus into deepening cooperation at the local level between the two countries.
