Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – According to an official press release from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the invitation of Say Chhum, Vice Chairman of the Cambodian People's Party and Standing Committee Member of the Central Committee, Tran Tuu, Member of the Politburo and Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation on an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia on April 10.
On the eve of the visit, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu, in an exclusive interview with a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Phnom Penh, emphasized that the close exchanges between Vietnam and Cambodia over the past 60 years have fostered a profound friendship. Against the backdrop of the current complex and volatile regional and global situation, the solidarity and mutual trust between the two parties and countries are a valuable asset worthy of cultivation, maintenance, and development for generations to come, and a cornerstone of confidence for advancing comprehensive cooperation between the two sides towards a more pragmatic and efficient direction under the new circumstances. Nguyen Minh Vu pointed out that this visit has three important significances: First, it is Tran Tu's first overseas trip as a principal leader of the Party and State after the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, coinciding with the completion of the national leadership transition at the first session of the 16th National Assembly of Cambodia, fully demonstrating Vietnam's high regard and priority for consolidating and developing the traditional friendly and cooperative relations between China and Cambodia; second, the visit coincides with the eve of the Cambodian New Year, and Tran Tu will extend sincere holiday greetings to the Cambodian leaders and people on behalf of the Vietnamese Party and State leaders; third, the core task is to verify, exchange, and implement the consensus reached at the high-level meeting between the two countries in February this year. During the visit, Tran Tu will hold several important meetings and talks with leaders of the Cambodian People's Party, the Senate, the National Assembly, and the government, and participate in a series of related activities.
Looking back on the 59-year history of diplomatic relations, Nguyen Minh Vu stated that the Vietnamese and Cambodian peoples have always stood shoulder to shoulder, sharing weal and woe, supporting each other and achieving mutual success in difficult times. Cambodia's top leadership and various sectors have always been grateful to the Vietnamese volunteers for helping the country escape the Pol Pot genocide regime. Vietnam, in turn, is deeply thankful for Cambodia's support and immense sacrifices made for the liberation and reunification of South Vietnam. Through the careful cultivation of successive leaders and peoples of both countries, bilateral relations have steadily developed in accordance with the principles of "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability," bringing tangible benefits to the people of both nations. In specific areas of cooperation, Nguyen Minh Vu explained: At the political and diplomatic level, high-level visits and contacts at all levels are routine. The annual high-level meeting mechanism between the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party has become a model of bilateral cooperation. Both sides closely cooperate in regional and international forums and the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia trilateral mechanism to jointly safeguard regional and global peace and stability. In the defense and security field, both sides adhere to the principle of "not allowing any hostile forces to use their territory to harm the interests of the other side," strengthening the strategic rear security barrier while deepening cooperation in combating cross-border crime, providing a solid guarantee for security and order in border areas. At the economic and trade level, complementary advantages continue to be released. Vietnam is currently Cambodia's fifth largest source of investment, with over 200 investment projects and nearly US$3 billion in registered capital. Bilateral trade is projected to reach US$11.33 billion in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 11.7%, firmly ranking among Cambodia's top three trading partners and being its second largest export market. [The text abruptly ends here, likely due to an incomplete sentence or missing information.] The goal of reaching $100 million is progressing steadily; in the social and cultural sphere, cooperation in education and training has yielded fruitful results, with hundreds of scholarship students exchanged annually for training in language, culture, and other fields. The two countries also provide timely mutual assistance in responding to natural disasters and epidemics, and share vaccines and medical resources.
Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized that the close bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has not only enhanced the two countries' status and role on the international stage but also helped consolidate ASEAN unity, injecting positive energy into regional and global peace and stability, and serving as an important guarantee for the prosperity and happiness of the two peoples. He pointed out that the relationship between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People's Party is the solid political foundation of the bilateral relationship, while the political mutual trust between the two parties and countries is the stabilizing "ballast." It is this mutual trust that provides strategic guidance for cooperation in various fields and is continuously deepened through regular meetings between the top leaders, ensuring that all issues are properly resolved in the spirit of solidarity, friendship, sincerity, and mutual assistance between neighbors.
