According to a report from the Vietnam Highway Department, five service areas on the Hanoi-Can Tho Expressway are now officially operational: Giẽ-Ninh Binh (VEC), Cao Phu-Mai Son, La Son-Hoa Lien (left side), Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giây, and Trung Luong-My Thuan. Meanwhile, one new rest stop has been added to the Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway. These service areas and rest stops effectively meet the basic service needs of travelers and vehicles, including rest and refueling.
Regarding the progress of service area construction, the Vietnam Highway Department has completed the selection of investors and contract signing for all 21 planned service areas. Investors are expediting investment approval procedures and strictly adhering to the contract schedule to advance on-site construction, striving to basically complete a comprehensive service area system by 2026.
In response to the surge in travel demand during the Lunar New Year period, the Vietnam Highway Department stated that during the transitional period for service area construction, several stations along the North-South Expressway in the eastern region have completed the construction of essential public service facilities and put them into operation; the remaining stations are making every effort to improve facilities or develop temporary operating plans to ensure adequate service during the peak travel period.
To further facilitate public travel, the Vietnam Highway Department has also released detailed information on the specific locations of expressway entrances and exits and connecting roads in the northern, central, and southern regions. Currently, most entrances and exits and connecting roads are equipped with necessary service facilities such as gas stations and restaurants, which can fully meet the diverse needs of road users for refueling, dining, and rest when entering and exiting the expressway.
