Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On November 25th, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, affiliated with Hanoi National University, and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam jointly launched a series of activities on American Studies in Hanoi to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States (1995-2025).
At the opening ceremony, Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, stated that as a leading institution of higher learning in Vietnam's social sciences and humanities with an 80-year history, the university has long been committed to cultivating talent in history, international relations, political science, literature, cultural studies, journalism and communication, and regional studies, with American Studies being a key focus.
With the support of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam and the Asia Foundation, the university launched its American Studies project in 2003 and formally established the Department of American Studies in 2004. For over two decades, this project has made positive contributions to the development of American studies in Vietnam, supporting teaching and research at numerous universities from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Hue and Da Nang.
Dang Thi Thu Huong emphasized that schools are not only educational and research institutions, but also bear the important policy advisory function of the Party and the State. To fulfill this mission, maintaining a deep, objective, and balanced understanding of key partners, especially the United States, is crucial.
Dang Thi Thu Huong stated, “For us, American studies is not only a discipline, but also a window for Vietnamese youth to understand important countries in the world, thereby participating in constructive dialogue on global affairs. Therefore, our long-term and stable cooperation with the U.S. Embassy is a vital driving force for improving teaching quality, promoting research progress, and expanding development opportunities for students and teachers.”
Within the framework of the event, a “Understanding America” competition will be held immediately after the opening ceremony, aiming to further stimulate the interest of Vietnamese youth, especially university students, in the United States and its people, deepen their understanding, promote a sense of responsibility, and contribute to consolidating Vietnam-U.S. bilateral relations.
Following this, from December 5th to 6th, 2025, training courses on American studies will be held for teachers and students of universities in Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Hue, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. Professors from the United States with extensive international teaching experience will teach and provide detailed guidance on the design of some topics, helping participants update their knowledge and improve their academic abilities.
