Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Flea and tick treatments are daily necessities for pet owners. However, criminals have seized upon this huge market demand, manufacturing and selling counterfeit brand-name pet flea and tick products, severely disrupting normal market order.

On the 29th, reporters learned from the Baoshan District Police in Shanghai that, during the "Sharpening the Sword 2025" series of special operations, Baoshan police cracked a case involving the sale of counterfeit brand-name pet flea and tick products, arresting two suspects and seizing over 50,000 counterfeit brand-name pet flea and tick collars and flea and tick drops, with the case involving over 5 million yuan.

In March 2025, the Baoshan District Police received a report from Mr. Wang, a resident of Baoshan District, stating that the brand-name pet flea and tick collars and flea and tick drops he purchased from an online store on a certain platform were poorly made and their flea and tick treatment effects were unsatisfactory, leading him to suspect they were counterfeit products. To protect consumers' legitimate rights and interests and optimize the business environment, Baoshan police contacted the brand owner in Shanghai. With the brand owner's verification, it was confirmed that the pet flea and tick collar and flea and tick drops purchased by Mr. Wang online were counterfeit products. Based on this information, Baoshan police immediately established a special task force to investigate.

According to the online shopping information provided by the complainant, police discovered that the online store specialized in selling pet flea and tick products. The branded pet flea and tick collars and drops sold had packaging that was almost identical to the genuine products, but the price was much lower, nearly ten times the price of the genuine products. Statistics showed that the online store's sales exceeded 4 million yuan. Due to the large sales volume and the same shipping location, police initially determined that the gang engaged in offline counterfeiting and online sales.

Through tracing the source of the online store, it was determined that the actual operator of the store was Zheng. Meanwhile, after several days of investigation and in-depth investigation into Zheng's financial transactions, police discovered that Zheng's husband, Xie, was responsible for the products and logistics. Xie was primarily responsible for the upstream supply chain, purchasing low-quality pet collars and flea and tick treatments at extremely low prices. These products not only had unclear ingredients but also no flea and tick repellent effect. Simultaneously, he used online channels to find packaging suppliers to print and manufacture counterfeit brand pet flea and tick collars and treatment packaging, striving to make them indistinguishable from genuine products. His wife, Zheng, was responsible for downstream sales, attracting business on online platforms through promotional activities such as "genuine product guarantee" and "low-price benefits." Furthermore, police discovered that the Xie couple presented themselves as overseas Chinese returnees and chamber of commerce members in their daily lives, using this "identity" to join contact groups for overseas students. They "casually" revealed that they were manufacturers of pet supplies for a well-known brand, quickly gaining market access with "insider prices."

After clarifying the gang's hideout and sales channels, on July 3, with the cooperation of local police, Baoshan police launched a raid in a city in another province, arresting suspects Xie and his wife. They seized over 30,000 counterfeit brand-name pet flea and tick collars, over 80,000 unfinished products and raw materials, and over 3,000 vials of flea and tick drops from their home and warehouse.

After being apprehended, suspect Xie confessed that to make his "genuine product" appear more authentic, he impersonated a brand licensor, creating fake authorization materials and signing packaging production contracts with factories, requesting them to produce packaging bearing the brand logo.

Currently, suspects Xie and Zheng have been criminally detained by Baoshan police on suspicion of counterfeiting registered trademarks. The case is under further investigation. Police will continue to investigate and crack down on the production and sale of counterfeit goods. (End)
