Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) With the 2026 New Year's Day holiday approaching, weather will directly impact travel experiences. China Weather Network has released a New Year's Day holiday weather map to help the public understand local weather conditions and travel safety guidelines in advance.
From December 30th to January 2nd, 2026, a strong cold air mass will affect most of central and eastern my country, causing temperature drops of 6-8℃ in many areas from Northeast to South China, while rain and snow are expected in Southwest and Jiangnan regions. Overall, precipitation will be weak across most of the country during the holiday, temperatures will be low in central and eastern China, and the south will experience significant damp and cold conditions.
According to the weather map, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Shanxi, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, northern Anhui and Jiangsu, most of Hunan, and eastern Guizhou will see little rain and snow, making them suitable for travel. However, there will be large temperature differences between day and night, and it will be chilly in the mornings and evenings. It is recommended to wear layered clothing and reduce outdoor activities at night to prevent catching a cold.
Northern China will remain under the continued influence of cold air, resulting in low temperatures. Temperatures in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai, and northern Hebei will remain below freezing throughout the day, with some areas experiencing minimum temperatures of -10°C to -20°C. Travelers should prepare a full set of cold-weather gear, including long down jackets and windproof pants, and move indoors to warm up after outdoor activities (indoor heating is available in northern regions).
After the cold air moves south, the maximum temperature in southern Guangdong and Fujian, Hainan, and Taiwan will drop from around 20°C to around 15°C, making it feel much cooler. Those planning to travel for warmth should prepare light sweatshirts and windproof jackets for the last two days of the holiday. Those traveling to islands and coastal areas should take precautions against strong winds.
Regarding rain and snow, on New Year's Day, most of Tibet, eastern Heilongjiang, southern Gansu, western Shaanxi, and northern Sichuan Plateau will experience light to moderate snow or sleet. Snowfall is expected in eastern Tibet and the western Sichuan Plateau for the last two days of the holiday. Drivers should be aware of slippery roads, maintain a safe following distance, and pedestrians should wear snow boots and avoid icy roads.
Light to moderate rain is expected in parts of southern China, eastern Southwest China, Hainan, and Taiwan on New Year's Day. The rain will gradually subside over the next two days of the holiday, but light rain will persist in the Sichuan Basin, Yunnan, and Guizhou. The rain may reduce visibility and make roads slippery; it is recommended to carry rain gear.
China Weather Network reminds the public to pay close attention to weather forecasts and warnings before traveling and to plan their trips accordingly. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable 2026 guided by the weather forecasts.
