Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Against the backdrop of rapid development in e-commerce and social networks, commercial fraud and the trade in counterfeit and substandard goods are becoming increasingly covert and complex, posing a serious challenge to market supervision.

According to statistics from the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, the Vietnamese e-commerce market exceeded US$30 billion in 2025, representing a year-on-year growth of approximately 25%, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total digital economy. This growth is attributed to the widespread adoption of the internet and smartphones, as well as the rapid development of online shopping platforms and social networks, which has also boosted production and distribution, and created numerous job opportunities in logistics and technology sectors.

However, with market expansion, the risks of counterfeit and substandard goods and commercial fraud are constantly rising. In 2025, market management forces nationwide investigated and dealt with more than 23,400 cases involving counterfeit goods, mainly occurring on e-commerce platforms and social networks, covering various sectors including daily consumer goods, cosmetics, electronic devices, and health foods.

Practice shows that preventing counterfeit and substandard goods in the e-commerce environment still faces many difficulties. The main reasons are that laws and regulations have not fully kept pace with the rapid development of the market, there are still shortcomings in the verification of business entity identities and the supervision of product quality in cyberspace, and the deterrent effect of current penalties needs to be improved, leading to the recurrence of some illegal activities.

Tran Huu Linh, Director of the Domestic Market Management and Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, stated that it is necessary to innovate market supervision methods in the e-commerce sector, focusing on enhancing the sense of responsibility of e-commerce platforms in preventing and eliminating non-compliant merchants; at the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the enforcement effectiveness of law enforcement forces and promote the application of information technology, data analysis, and automated monitoring systems to achieve early detection and early warning of risks.

Furthermore, strengthening the training of law enforcement teams, improving their professional capabilities, and enhancing the supervision of digital space are considered important measures to protect consumers' legitimate rights and interests and build a safe, transparent, and sustainable digital business environment.
