Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Thailand's mainstream media outlet, Khaosod, recently released its list of "Top 10 Southeast Asian Destinations to Watch in 2026," and Phu Quy Island in Lam Dong Province, Vietnam, was successfully included. The island, praised for its pristine, rugged, and magnificent natural scenery, described as "like frames from a movie," has become a recommended choice for travelers seeking a tranquil and unique travel experience.

Khaoosod begins its list with a thought-provoking question: "Bangkok is making a comeback, Bali is nearing saturation, and Vietnam is rapidly rising. As we enter 2026, the real question is: Where can tourists truly go to find peace and quiet and listen to their inner voice?" The newspaper points out that compared to being immersed in the neon lights of Singapore's Orchard Road or surrounded by selfie crowds at Angkor Wat in Cambodia, destinations that retain their tranquil authenticity are more worthy of exploration.

This list, compiled by the expert team of the Khao Soc newspaper editorial department after on-site investigations, was officially released on January 5th, focusing on 10 "little-known" Southeast Asian destinations. While these places are difficult to reach, they have fully preserved their natural atmosphere and original cultural characteristics; Phu Quy Island is one of them.

The report describes Phu Quy Island as rugged, with strong sea breezes and natural landscapes possessing a cinematic quality. While most tourists flock to Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam, travelers seeking unique experiences choose to depart from Phan Thiet and travel by boat to Phu Quy Island. There are no large-scale hotels or resort complexes on the island; accommodation is mainly small hotels and guesthouses, and the overall atmosphere is described as "like stepping back into the coastal areas of Vietnam 30 years ago."

Khao Soc newspaper explains that, influenced by volcanic remnants, Phu Quy Island has rugged terrain, surrounded by clear turquoise waters, and has not been overdeveloped by mass tourism, thus preserving its pristine ecological landscape. Phu Quy Island, also known as "Chyu Island" (Cù lao Thu), is located about 120 kilometers southeast of Phan Thiet City. It covers an area of approximately 18 square kilometers and, in addition to the main island, is surrounded by several smaller islets, including Hòn Tranh, Hòn Đỏ, Hòn Đá Cao, and Hòn Hải.

The island boasts a cool and refreshing climate, making it suitable for travel year-round. The best time to explore Phu Quy Island is from December to June of the following year. September to November is typhoon season, requiring caution when traveling. Spring and summer offer relatively calm seas, clear waters, and gentle breezes, facilitating exploration of the surrounding islets; however, sea conditions can be unpredictable, so visitors should closely monitor weather forecasts before traveling.

Besides Phu Quy Island in Vietnam, the list also includes several niche Southeast Asian travel destinations such as Ulu Temburong in Brunei, Nong Khiaw in Laos, Bonbon Beach in the Philippines, Doi Mae Salong in Thailand, Koh Tonsay in Cambodia, Bukit Lawang in Indonesia, and Mergui in Myanmar.
