Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – According to the Attapeu News, a 500-pound (227 kg) MK82 unexploded ordnance bomb in Mayonhoe Amaiang village, Samahisay district, Attapeu province, Laos, was successfully defused last week.

Saysettha Phosalad, deputy head of the Attapeu province unexploded ordnance disposal team, explained that the team had been conducting unexploded ordnance cleanup operations in a 17-hectare area of Mayonhoe Amaiang village since March 2nd, and discovered the large MK82 unexploded ordnance on March 13th.

After professional assessment, the bomb disposal team confirmed that the unexploded ordnance posed an extremely high safety risk. Calculations showed that if the bomb exploded during removal, it would directly endanger the lives of 152 residents from 22 households in the surrounding area, and the blast could also cause serious injury or even death to people within a 1500-meter radius. Therefore, the bomb disposal team advised all residents in the area to evacuate during the bomb removal and disposal process.

To ensure safety throughout the entire disposal operation, before the unexploded ordnance is removed and properly disposed of, the bomb disposal team, in conjunction with the local government, has set up checkpoints at 11 locations in the surrounding area, strictly prohibiting unauthorized personnel and vehicles from entering the danger zone. At the same time, staff have informed local residents of the bomb discovery and disposal situation, reminding them to be vigilant when working or traveling in the relevant area to prevent safety hazards posed by similar unexploded ordnance.
