Thongloun Sisoulith elected President of Laos

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The first session of the 10th National Assembly of Laos opened on the morning of May 23 in Vientiane, the capital. Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), was elected President of Laos, and Somxay Siphandone, a member of the Political Bureau of the LPRP, was elected Prime Minister.

  At the same meeting, Saysomphone Phomvihane, a member of the Political Bureau of the LPRP, was elected President of the 10th National Assembly of Laos. The meeting also elected the Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Vice Presidents of the National Assembly.

  In January of this year, the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party elected a new leadership, with Thongloun re-elected as General Secretary of the LPRP.

  The National Assembly of Laos is the highest organ of state power and the legislative body of Laos, responsible for drafting the constitution and laws. Each term is five years. The 10th National Assembly election was held in February of this year, electing 175 delegates.
