
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On March 18, World Bank Vice President Carlos Felipe Haramilo paid a courtesy call on Lao Prime Minister Somxay Siphandone at the Prime Minister's Office in Laos. During the meeting, the World Bank reiterated its continued support for Laos' development and positively appraised Laos' progress in implementing its national socio-economic development plan and improving people's well-being.
Prime Minister Somxay warmly welcomed and expressed sincere gratitude to the World Bank delegation, noting that the visit provided an important opportunity to further deepen the partnership between the Lao government and the World Bank, which has lasted for over 60 years. He highly appreciated the World Bank's long-term and continuous support, stating that World Bank assistance has played a crucial supporting role in Laos' socio-economic development over the years.
Prime Minister Somxay emphasized that Laos is currently preparing to advance the next phase of its national socio-economic development plan, and that continued and deepened cooperation between the two sides is of great significance. The focus will be on maintaining macroeconomic stability, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth, and enhancing national development governance capabilities.
Both sides reached a consensus on key areas of cooperation, including: cultivating high-quality human capital adapted to the needs of modern technology, promoting sustainable management of natural resources and ecological environmental protection, and enhancing capacity to respond to climate change and natural disasters.
Both sides expressed their firm belief that the long-term partnership between Laos and the World Bank will continue to deepen and become more practical, injecting stronger momentum into Laos's future sustainable and inclusive development.
