Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – At the invitation of Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn paid a three-day official visit to Laos from November 26 to 28. During the visit, the two foreign ministers co-chaired the 15th meeting of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation in Vientiane.
The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release on November 28, outlining the outcomes of the visit.
The release stated that the two foreign ministers highly appreciated the significant progress made in border demarcation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to resolve remaining border issues and working together to build the Cambodia-Laos border into a common border of peace, friendship, development, and cooperation.
Both sides recognized the enormous potential for expanding trade and investment between the two countries and agreed to further promote connections and cooperation between enterprises. The two foreign ministers reviewed the successful second meeting of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Trade Committee held in Vientiane in January 2025 and pledged to continuously increase the scale of bilateral trade and actively explore new areas of cooperation to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
Energy cooperation was one of the key focuses of the talks. The two foreign ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector and actively implement relevant agreements and memorandums of understanding. Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed his sincere gratitude to Laos for providing electricity support to Cambodia.
In addition, the two sides held in-depth discussions on important areas such as transportation connectivity, tourism, agriculture, cultural exchanges, and education, demonstrating a shared desire to comprehensively advance bilateral relations.
Besides co-chairing the joint committee meeting with the Lao Foreign Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn also paid courtesy calls on Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Somxay Siphandone during his visit to Laos.
This visit further consolidated the traditional good-neighborly and friendly relations between Cambodia and Laos and laid a solid foundation for the in-depth development of future bilateral cooperation.
