Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On February 23, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone led a delegation on a working visit to the New Port-Chai Lai Port, a subsidiary of the Saigon New Port Corporation of the Vietnamese Navy.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone was accompanied by General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense; Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem, Commander of the Navy; Vice Admiral Nguyen Truong Thang, Commander of the 7th Military Region; and representatives from the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Lao Embassy in Vietnam.
In 2024, Vietnam became Laos' third-largest supplier of goods, after Thailand and China. As Vietnam's largest port operator, Saigon New Port has pioneered an efficient supply chain, supporting the implementation of multiple port cooperation projects and significantly enhancing logistics connectivity. These efforts not only help strengthen trade connections but also contribute to building a modern and sustainable logistics ecosystem, consolidating the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
Lao Prime Minister Somxay Siphandone stated that the Vietnamese government's efforts to facilitate the development and operation of Vinh Ang Port in Laos fully demonstrate its strong support for Laos. This has helped Laos, a landlocked country, gain access to the sea and contributed significantly to the substantial growth of bilateral trade, particularly in agricultural products, mining, and electricity exports.
Prime Minister Somxay Siphandone emphasized that this achievement is inseparable from the significant contributions of Vietnamese defense enterprises, including Saigon New Port Company. Saigon New Port Company organized seminars and other activities to enhance cooperation among Lao businesses and deployed Lao cargo transport vehicles at Vinh Ang Port. Laos highly appreciates the model of Vietnamese military enterprises participating in economic development.
Prime Minister Somxay Siphandone added that Laos is currently implementing an independent and autonomous economic policy. This visit to Saigon New Port will help learn from and draw on experience in port management, operation, and logistics services, contributing to the further development of import and export business. To achieve these goals, he hopes that the Vietnamese government and the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will guide cooperation between the two sides to improve efficiency, especially in the effective development of Vinh Ang Port in accordance with the agreements already reached between the Lao and Vietnamese governments.
