Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Under the night sky, red lanterns hang high in the Nanqiang Old Street area of Kunming, where barbecue stalls, folk music bars, and old house photo spots are bustling with activity. This national-level nighttime cultural and tourism consumption cluster sees an average daily visitor flow of nearly 40,000. Today, Yunnan Province, relying on its cultural and natural resources, is creating diverse nighttime consumption scenarios such as the revitalization of old streets, the revitalization of industrial heritage, and distinctive intangible cultural heritage experiences. The nighttime economy has become a new engine for cultural and tourism consumption.
Wuhua District of Kunming City is the core focus, with Nanping Pedestrian Street, Kunming Old Street, and the Cuihu area forming the core area of the nighttime economy. It has cultivated 22 distinctive markets and 13 demonstration projects, covering catering, cultural and creative industries, and performing arts. From January to November 2025, the district received over 40.37 million tourists, with total tourism spending reaching 50.654 billion yuan. Vendors selling Jianshui purple pottery in Nanqiang Street and vendors offering exotic cuisine in the South Asia and Southeast Asia Style Street have all benefited from the dense markets and bustling crowds, with locals and tourists alike favoring this leisurely and diverse consumption experience. The abandoned Mayuan Old Railway Station has been revitalized into the "Centennial Meter-Girder Mayuan Station" cultural and creative street, attracting over a thousand merchants with its retro railway tracks and green-skinned carriages, becoming a new hotspot for nostalgic photo opportunities.
In Pu'er, southern Yunnan, similar highlights abound. The Simao District Tea Horse Ancient Town Night Market, reconstructed based on the ancient Pu'er Prefecture, features over 200 stalls offering food, roasted tea, and intangible cultural heritage experiences. In 2025, it received nearly 4 million visitors, generating nearly 500 million yuan in tourism revenue. Experiences such as fire pit roasted tea, Zhenyuan black pottery, and Jianshui purple pottery are particularly popular, with many tourists extending their nighttime experiences to in-depth tours of the surrounding tea mountains and ancient villages.
In addition, the unique scenes of Dai ethnic customs in Xishuangbanna, Bai ethnic tie-dyeing in Dali, and Tibetan Guozhuang dance in Shangri-La have continuously expanded Yunnan's nighttime economy. Data shows that in the first half of 2025, the province's 14 national-level nighttime cultural and tourism consumption clusters received 107 million visitors, generating revenue of 18.102 billion yuan, representing year-on-year increases of 10.2% and 8.3%, respectively.
