According to Long Jun, Deputy Director of the Major Crimes Procuratorial Department and a Level 3 Senior Prosecutor of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Procuratorate, from January 2025 to May 2026, Jiangxi's procuratorial organs approved the arrest of 3,166 individuals in 2,545 drug crime cases, accounting for 8.2% of all criminal cases, a decrease of 1.4 percentage points year-on-year; and prosecuted 3,804 individuals in 2,914 drug crime cases, accounting for 5.5% of all criminal cases, a decrease of 0.8 percentage points year-on-year.
While strictly handling drug crime cases according to law, Jiangxi's procuratorial organs have persisted in in-depth investigations, strengthened the eradication of drug cultivation, focused on cracking down on source-level drug manufacturing crimes, and strived to achieve a full-chain crackdown on drug crimes. For example, in the case of Huang Moumou illegally cultivating narcotic plants, handled by the Yushan County People's Procuratorate of Shangrao City, the procuratorate filed a public prosecution according to law, and the court convicted Huang Moumou of the crime of illegally cultivating narcotic plants and fined him RMB 2,000.
Long Jun stated that crimes involving new types of drugs such as etomidate, dextromethorphan, metoimidate, and isopramazoride remain prominent. Jiangxi procuratorial organs are handling cases involving these new types of drugs according to law, promoting the effective governance of this problem.
In the case of Liao Moumou selling drugs, handled by the Xingguo County People's Procuratorate of Ganzhou City, Liao Moumou, as a clinic operator, sold a total of 509 boxes of dextromethorphan hydrobromide tablets to 26 drug-related individuals (including 4 minors) without verifying the identities of the buyers or obtaining a doctor's prescription. The procuratorate filed a public prosecution according to law, and the court sentenced Liao Moumou to seven years imprisonment for the crime of drug trafficking and fined him RMB 30,000.
According to reports, Jiangxi's procuratorial organs, in handling drug cases, focused on uncovering social governance issues reflected in the cases. They issued 14 procuratorial suggestions on drug control work, conducted in-depth drug control legal education campaigns, carried out 742 drug control publicity activities in communities and schools, educating approximately 35,500 people and 53,800 students on drug control knowledge, and distributing 74,600 copies of drug control legal education materials, creating a positive atmosphere for drug control.
