The Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone celebrates the Lao Buddhist New Year with a grand opening of the 2026 Songkran

  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On April 11, 2026, on the eve of the Lao New Year 2569 (Buddhist Era), the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone held a grand opening ceremony for its Water Splashing Festival at the "Golden Triangle Window" scenic area on Kapok Island. Representatives from all sectors of the Special Economic Zone gathered together to celebrate the upcoming New Year and jointly launch this grand festival that inherits national culture and showcases the Special Economic Zone's character.

  Khamsawang Vilayphong, Director of the Special Economic Zone's Administrative Management Agency, and Sun Jie, President of the Golden Kapok Group Co., Ltd., attended the ceremony. Representatives from the Special Economic Zone Management Committee, the Public Security and National Defense Command, as well as entrepreneurs and representatives of surrounding residents witnessed the grand opening ceremony.

  This year's Water Splashing Festival blends traditional folk customs with modern entertainment, featuring a series of unique activities including almsgiving, building sand towers, water splashing blessings, a trade fair, iron ball (rolling ball) competitions, and song and dance competitions, showcasing the local folk customs.

  At the opening ceremony, Director Kansha Wang delivered a New Year's address, extending sincere holiday greetings to all sectors. He stated that the Special Economic Zone is steadily advancing its economic and social development plan and actively implementing a development model that combines tourism with ethnic culture. This event not only aims to protect and inherit excellent traditional culture but also to empower the tourism economy with cultural brands, cultivate new consumption growth points, and drive the coordinated development of commerce, sports, arts, and other undertakings in the Special Economic Zone.

  On the opening day, the first Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone Iron Ball Competition officially commenced, attracting 89 teams and over 100 athletes to compete. That evening, the first Special Economic Zone Song and Dance Competition was also held, featuring 16 ethnic minority performances that provided the audience with a spectacular audio-visual feast.
