
Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On April 14th, the first day of the Cambodian traditional New Year, the Songkran Festival celebrations and pedestrian street activities held at Wat Phnom in Phnom Penh saw a surge in visitors, attracting approximately 480,000 domestic and international tourists to participate and experience the festive atmosphere. During the event, the Phnom Penh Municipal Government and relevant departments made meticulous arrangements, effectively maintaining order and security in all areas, and no emergencies occurred.

Ms. De Sopheap, Deputy Director of Administration and Spokesperson of the Phnom Penh Municipal Government, revealed on the evening of the 14th that the Songkran Festival celebrations at Wat Phnom attracted approximately 430,000 domestic and international tourists on the first day of the Cambodian New Year, while the pedestrian street activities also saw approximately 50,000 participants.
It is reported that a series of celebrations themed "2025 Wat Phnom Songkran Festival" grandly opened on April 14th at Wat Phnom, the birthplace of the Cambodian New Year. Phnom Penh Mayor Khun Sreng and his wife presided over the opening ceremony. This celebration aimed to welcome the traditional Cambodian Year of the Snake and attracted hundreds of thousands of domestic and international tourists to experience the unique festival culture and joyous atmosphere.

It's worth noting that prior to the official opening of the Wat Phnom Songkran Festival celebrations, from April 12th to 13th, the area's pre-festival activities and pedestrian street had already attracted over 600,000 domestic and international tourists.
The event venue was filled with a joyful and peaceful festive atmosphere, with many citizens and tourists actively participating in traditional customs such as water splashing and powder throwing. To ensure the smooth running of the events and the safety of participants, Cambodian law enforcement deployed a large security force and strengthened order maintenance.
The three-day "2025 Wat Phnom Songkran Festival" celebrations will continue, encompassing solemn religious ceremonies and other rich and diverse cultural activities, aiming to create a joyful and peaceful festival experience for citizens and tourists alike.
