Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet issued a decree on the 13th, officially announcing the establishment of the "Kampot Logistics Port." The core purpose of this move is to further enhance Cambodia's international shipping service capabilities, optimize the national logistics system layout, and promote the high-quality development of the logistics industry.
According to the decree, the Kampot Logistics Port is located in Chan O Aung Village, Boeung Thanh Commune, Bok Khoi City, Kampot Province. It will primarily provide multi-functional integrated services for international shipping, covering core businesses such as international vessel entry and exit management, cargo transshipment and loading/unloading, and comprehensive logistics support, comprehensively meeting the needs of international logistics transportation.
The port's initial design capacity is approximately 3 million tons per year, with well-developed infrastructure. The planned waterway includes two core berths, each 500 meters long, with berthing areas of 319,000 square meters and 320,000 square meters respectively, fully meeting the berthing, loading/unloading, and operational needs of large vessels, laying a solid foundation for the port's efficient operation.
To ensure the Kampot Logistics Port operates in strict compliance with Cambodia's current Waterway Transport Law and related regulations, Prime Minister Hun Manet clarified the regulatory responsibilities of various departments in his decree: the Ministry of Health is responsible for port quarantine; the Ministry of Interior is responsible for immigration management and border security; the Ministry of Economy and Finance (General Department of Customs) is responsible for import and export tariff collection and cargo inspection; the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has appointed a port authority director to oversee the port's daily operations; and the Kampot Provincial Government is responsible for local administration and coordination, forming a multi-party collaborative regulatory system.
The official establishment of the Kampot Logistics Port marks a new stage in the development of Cambodia's coastal logistics industry. It holds significant strategic importance for promoting local economic growth, attracting foreign investment, reducing logistics costs, and improving the regional logistics network, further enhancing Cambodia's competitiveness in regional logistics.
