Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com), January 21st – On the morning of January 21st, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet personally chaired a meeting of the National Committee for Combating Cyber Fraud, focusing on reviewing recent law enforcement achievements and deploying a new phase of comprehensive crackdown on cyber fraud and related crimes across the country.
This meeting demonstrated the highest level of importance the Royal Government of Cambodia attaches to combating cyber fraud. In addition to Prime Minister Hun Manet's personal chairing, attendees included core leaders of the national security and administrative system, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Anti-Drug Agency, relevant government ministers, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, the Commissioner General of the National Police, the Commander of the National Gendarmerie, the Commander of the Army, as well as the Mayor of Phnom Penh, provincial governors, and high-ranking officials of local law enforcement agencies, fully demonstrating the Cambodian government's firm determination to build a multi-dimensional, comprehensive anti-fraud system.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated the special appeal issued on January 13th, emphasizing that combating cybercrime is not merely the responsibility of a single law enforcement agency, but a crucial political mission concerning the country's reputation and international image.
Prime Minister Hun Manet stated, “I sincerely hope that all sectors of society, including the general public, civil servants, local authorities, and relevant departments, will dedicate themselves to national governance with a high sense of responsibility and dedication. We need to unite the powerful forces of national solidarity to completely eradicate the scourge of cybercrime and jointly maintain and enhance Cambodia's positive image on the international stage.”
The meeting reviewed in detail the progress of previous efforts to combat online fraud. Considering the current characteristics of this type of crime—its high degree of concealment and cross-border mobility—a concrete roadmap for the next comprehensive crackdown was clarified.
The next key tasks are: strengthening the investigation and elimination of suspicious locations in various provinces and cities; breaking down information barriers; promoting real-time collaboration among police, communications, and financial departments; compressing the space for crime to operate at its source; and ensuring the long-term effectiveness of the crackdown.
This meeting marks the Cambodian government's entry into a new phase of "systematization, normalization, and comprehensiveness" in its fight against telecommunications and online fraud, clearly sending a strong signal to the international community of its determination to eradicate such illegal activities and fully safeguard social security and stability.
