Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Cambodia's Ministry of the Interior recently announced that six police officers in Stung Treng province have been demoted, stripped of their ranks, or dismissed for serious violations of police discipline and suspected involvement in assisting illegal border crossings.
According to a ministerial decree signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sok Sokha, one of those involved was a deputy director of the Stung Treng Provincial Police Department responsible for border affairs. This official has been dismissed from his deputy director position and demoted to a regular police officer.
Ministry of the Interior spokesperson, Du Sokha, confirmed that the six officers allegedly abused their positions to assist individuals in illegally entering Cambodia from Laos. Following a thorough investigation, police have identified four Lao nationals as the masterminds behind this illegal border crossing operation. The Ministry of the Interior has formally transferred the relevant information of these four individuals to the Lao authorities, requesting them to conduct further investigations and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
Du Sokh emphasized that the Cambodian government has a firm "zero tolerance" attitude towards such behavior. Any official who violates discipline, breaks the law, or uses their position for personal gain will be investigated and severely punished in accordance with the law, resolutely safeguarding the authority of national laws and border security and stability.
