Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Cambodian government recently announced the establishment of an inter-ministerial task force to fully promote the recovery and reconstruction of border disaster-stricken areas. The task force, headed by Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Chan Nareth, has initially selected Battambang province as its first target to assess the infrastructure affected by recent shelling by Thai troops.

Song Kin Somoni, spokesperson for the Cambodian National Committee for Disaster Management, stated that during this assessment, the task force met with displaced people at safe settlements in Battambang province. The task force also visited several schools near the border to inspect and assess the actual damage.

Song Kin Somoni pointed out that the assessment of the actual damage in various areas is being conducted in close cooperation with provincial authorities. This livelihoods and infrastructure recovery and management task force will continue to travel to other provinces to carry out inspections and assessments.

It is understood that the working group's responsibilities include: conducting a comprehensive investigation into the livelihood losses and infrastructure damage suffered by residents affected by the conflict; coordinating with government departments at all levels to prioritize the restoration of key public service infrastructure such as housing, schools, medical facilities, roads, bridges, water supply systems, and power grids; drafting special budget proposals and actively engaging with development partners, donors, and the private sector to secure necessary financial and technical assistance; establishing a strict progress monitoring system to ensure the accurate implementation of various assistance policies; regularly reporting progress to the Prime Minister; and carrying out other temporary tasks as instructed by the government.
