Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Cambodia's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications officially announced today that the country will officially launch commercial 5G mobile communication services starting January 1, 2026. The initial coverage area includes 15 provinces and cities nationwide, including the capital Phnom Penh, marking Cambodia's entry into the high-speed, low-latency 5G era of communication technology.

This successful launch of 5G services is the result of a deep strategic cooperation between the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the country's three major telecom operators – Cellcard, Metfone, and Smart. Through close collaboration in the early stages, all parties have successfully completed key tasks such as the construction of 5G communication base stations, network setup, and equipment debugging in designated areas, laying a solid foundation for the launch of commercial services.

The latest data released by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications shows that as of December 31, 2025, the three major operators' 5G infrastructure construction has reached a considerable scale: Smart Axiata has built and put into operation 283 5G base stations, Metfone has built and put into operation 220, and Cellcard has built and put into operation 200, laying a solid network foundation for 5G commercialization.

Starting from midnight on January 1, 2026, users of the three major operators mentioned above will be able to access the 5G network. The initial coverage area, in addition to the capital Phnom Penh, includes 14 provinces and cities: Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, Kratie, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Stung Treng, and Kampot. The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications stated that it will continue to supervise operators to increase investment and steadily expand 5G network coverage, ultimately achieving nationwide coverage.

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications emphasized in its announcement that the commercialization of 5G technology is not only a leap forward in mobile network speed, but also a core engine driving Cambodia's digital economic and social transformation. This initiative is highly aligned with the first phase of the Cambodian government's "Pentagon Strategy" and is a key step in implementing the development vision of the "Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035" and the "Digital Government Policy 2022-2035."

Leveraging its three core characteristics—high speed, massive connectivity, and low latency—5G technology will significantly improve the response efficiency of digital government services, provide solid technical support for telemedicine, smart manufacturing, and IoT applications, and simultaneously lay a strong infrastructure foundation for digital talent cultivation and the development of emerging industries, comprehensively empowering the country's digital economy.

The Cambodian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications calls on the public to actively try 5G services and witness and participate in this new lifestyle upgrade brought about by digital technology transformation.
