Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On the afternoon of February 24, 2026, His Excellency Khuong Sreng, Mayor of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, chaired a special meeting to report on the progress of public order management and rectification efforts in the streets surrounding the Demko Market. The meeting revealed that after more than a month of intensive rectification, the public order on Premoniree Boulevard, Mao Zedong Boulevard, and Street 230 has improved by 90%, and these roads will fully resume normal traffic from February 25th.
Mayor Khuong Sreng explained that the core measure of this rectification effort was to relocate street vendors who were previously occupying sidewalks and driveways to the newly built Demko Thammay Market (located in Prek Punok District) and Thamabu Prekche Market (located in Dankor District). This relocation plan received a positive response and strong support from the vendors and citizens, and 90% of the relocation work has been completed. He emphasized that the authorities will continue to advance follow-up work, striving to achieve 100% relocation and thoroughly improve regional traffic and urban environment, truly benefiting the general public.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed the cleanup efforts, praising government departments at all levels for their "gentle yet firm" approach and tireless efforts in advancing the cleanup. He pointed out that such orderly urban governance actions are an important foundation for Cambodia's development vision of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.
Regarding the livelihood issues arising from urban development, Mayor Khun Sreng further deployed measures: requiring the governments of all 14 districts in the city to establish a regular monitoring mechanism to address traffic congestion caused by the surge in vehicles; and urging the Municipal Health Department to work with districts to continuously carry out local mosquito control and prevention work to fully protect the health of citizens.
