Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Phnom Penh Water Authority (PPWSA) of Cambodia has made significant breakthroughs in water supply network expansion and infrastructure construction. By the end of 2025, the authority had added 399 kilometers of water supply pipelines, successfully increasing its daily water supply capacity to over 1 million cubic meters, covering 887 villages, representing 92% of its licensed service area.
Currently, the Phnom Penh Water Authority provides safe and clean drinking water to over 530,000 households, serving a population of nearly 3 million, covering Phnom Penh and surrounding core areas, effectively ensuring the local people's water needs.
Recently, at the closing ceremony of the 2025 annual work summary conference of the Cambodian Ministry of Industry and Technological Innovation, Minister Han Vandy fully affirmed the Phnom Penh Water Authority's phased achievements and put forward clear strategic requirements for the next stage of development. To further solidify the foundation of people's livelihood, Minister Han Vandy officially issued instructions on the 20th, requiring the Phnom Penh Water Supply Department to accelerate the expansion of the water supply network in Phnom Penh and Tai Khmau, with the core objective of achieving 100% clean water coverage in both cities by 2028.
Meanwhile, Minister Han Vandy emphasized that the Water Supply Department needs to actively address development challenges: on the one hand, expand its wholesale water supply business in economically promising areas to enhance the institution's long-term sustainable development capabilities; on the other hand, comprehensively review the operations of third-party service providers in the region, strictly adhering to the standards and norms of water supply services.
In addition to scale expansion, improving operational efficiency is also listed as a key task. Minister Han Vandy urged the Water Supply Department to continue conducting energy audits of production processes to optimize energy structure allocation; accelerate the process of digital and intelligent transformation to improve the institution's overall management efficiency; and strive to reduce the "non-revenue water (NRW)" rate through technological innovation to reduce water waste and further improve the economic benefits of water supply services. In his concluding remarks, Minister Han Vandy pointed out that the supply of clean drinking water is a fundamental public service that guarantees the basic well-being of citizens and supports economic activities. The Phnom Penh Water Authority must prioritize this as a core task to provide a solid water resource guarantee for Cambodia's high-quality socio-economic development.
