Phnom Penh police have successfully cracked a case of illegal detention and extortion, arresting a Chinese suspect.

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Recently, police in Boeung Keng Kang district, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, successfully cracked a criminal case involving illegal detention and extortion, arresting a Chinese male suspect on the spot and safely rescuing a Cambodian woman who had been illegally imprisoned.

  According to a statement from the Boeung Keng Kang district police, law enforcement officers conducted a special operation on the 27th of this month at an apartment building in the district's 3rd sector, successfully apprehending the suspect, REN XIAOPENG (male, 42 years old, Chinese national). The operation proceeded smoothly without incident.

  Police investigation confirmed that the victim was a 23-year-old Cambodian woman residing in the New Phnom Penh sector of Sen Sok district. Details of the case show that the suspect and the victim checked into a room on the 36th floor of the apartment building together on January 23rd of this year, and initially, their interactions were normal. On January 26th, the suspect suddenly committed acts of violence against the victim, forcibly confiscating her mobile phone, restricting her personal freedom, and illegally detaining her.

  During the illegal detention, the suspect contacted the victim's sister, threatening her safety and attempting to extort a $5,000 ransom for her freedom. Upon learning of the situation, the victim's family immediately reported the incident to the Daun Penh District Police Station, seeking police intervention and rescue.

  The police took the report very seriously and immediately deployed a team to investigate, quickly locating the suspect's hideout. In the subsequent arrest operation, the police apprehended the suspect on the spot and seized a quantity of drugs and related contraband, securing relevant evidence. Currently, the illegally detained Cambodian woman has been safely rescued, is in good health, and has been reunited with her family.

  As of now, the Chinese suspect has been transferred to the Ban Keng Kang District Police Station for further interrogation. The police are strictly following Cambodian legal procedures to compile the case file, strengthen the evidence chain, and prepare to formally transfer the suspect to the judicial authorities to pursue legal action for illegal detention, extortion, and drug-related offenses.
