Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – A parallel forum on China's poverty alleviation and global South poverty reduction efforts, part of the Global South Modernization Forum, was held in Beijing on the 21st. Many participants stated that China's victory in the battle against poverty is a milestone, and its experience is of great research and reference value to countries in the Global South.

In 2021, China announced a complete victory in its poverty alleviation campaign, attracting attention from countries around the world, especially those in the Global South. Now, China's poverty reduction experience has gone global, bringing tangible benefits and a model for other countries in the Global South to learn from.

Zhu Xinkai, Executive Vice President of Renmin University of China, said that China has always been an active advocate and practitioner of global agricultural cooperation. We deeply understand that agricultural development is the most crucial approach to solving poverty. "China is willing to leverage its own experience in agricultural development to deepen cooperation with the Global South, promote agricultural technology innovation, industrial capacity building, and talent cultivation, and help countries improve their food self-sufficiency and sustainable agricultural development." Li Xiaoyun, Senior Chair Professor of Humanities at China Agricultural University, shared a story about promoting soy milk in Africa. He stated that some Tanzanian farmers, with the support of Chinese projects, began cultivating soybeans. However, soybeans were not a staple in the local diet. A team from China Agricultural University introduced soybean milk making to the locals and, given the local power shortage, introduced stone mills for grinding soybeans. This was well-received and strengthened the farmers' resolve to continue soybean cultivation.

Li Xiaoyun said that this case demonstrates that China's poverty reduction experience is not only a grand narrative but also reflected in the practical details of daily cooperation with other Global South countries.

Participants from various countries also highly praised China's poverty reduction achievements and its contributions to promoting poverty reduction in the Global South.

UN Resident Coordinator in China, Chang Qide, said that the UN and China have long promoted South-South cooperation and sustainable development through initiatives such as the China-UN Peace and Development Fund, providing support to over 100 projects in more than 50 countries, effectively promoting poverty alleviation, security, and development.

Sutindra Kulkarni, founder of the New South Asia Forum in India, believes that as a large country with over 1.4 billion people, China's determination to eliminate absolute poverty and its achievement of this goal within the stipulated timeframe is of great milestone significance.

He said he had visited rural areas in many provinces of China and summarized poverty reduction experiences that could be studied and learned from by countries in the Global South, including targeted poverty alleviation, mobilizing national resources, and pairing assistance between eastern and western regions.

Khoo Ching Kee, Chairman of the Malaysian New Asia Strategic Research Center, also believes that China's achievement of lifting 800 million people out of poverty is an unprecedented accomplishment in human history.

He stated that China's success proves that poverty is not inevitable: with foresight, determination, and collective effort, societies can break free from these historical constraints. (End)
