According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, as of October 30th, over 90% of the autumn grain harvest and over 25% of the winter wheat planting nationwide had been completed.
By variety, over 95% of the autumn grain harvest for corn and soybeans nationwide has been completed; nearly 90% for medium-season rice; and over 50% for double-cropping late rice.
By region, the Northeast and Northwest are in the final stages; over 90% in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain and Southwest; over 85% in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River; and over 50% in South China.
Winter wheat planting is nearing completion in the Northwest; over 20% in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain; and about 15% in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and Southwest. Winter rapeseed planting is 75% complete.
Summer grain output accounts for one-quarter of the total annual grain output, with wheat accounting for over 90% of the summer grain output. my country's annual wheat planting area is 350 million mu (approximately 23 million hectares), accounting for 11% of the global total, and its total output has exceeded 130 million tons for ten consecutive years, accounting for 17% of the global total.
To ensure next year's summer grain yield, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently convened a field meeting to promote wheat sowing in the Huang-Huai-Hai region. The meeting analyzed the situation, clarified tasks, and redeployed key tasks such as timely sowing to combat flooding and promote seedling growth. Targeted technical guidance and training were also provided.
The meeting emphasized that all relevant regions must fully recognize the importance and complexity of this year's timely wheat sowing. Following the requirements of the 60-day campaign to combat autumn floods and promote wheat sowing and seedling growth, they must effectively address the impact of continuous rain in the Huang-Huai-Hai region with more robust organization and more precise technical measures. Every effort must be made to ensure the wheat sowing area is covered, and multiple measures must be taken to improve sowing quality, laying a solid foundation for a bumper summer grain harvest next year.
Due to the impact of the previous continuous rainy weather, some wheat-producing areas in the Huang-Huai-Hai region are facing challenges such as moist soil, increased difficulty in land preparation, and a prolonged sowing period. A relevant official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that all regions should accelerate soil moisture dissipation and improve land preparation quality, seizing the window of opportunity to complete sowing tasks; they should refine technical approaches, promoting moisture-resistant sowing and late-sowing contingency technologies; they should implement key measures without compromise, ensuring agricultural input guarantees, agricultural machinery support, and guidance services; and they should make full use of policies and projects benefiting farmers to fully support autumn and winter wheat planting.
"Currently, the most urgent task is to seize the agricultural season, accelerate soil moisture dissipation, improve land preparation quality, do everything possible to ensure the wheat planting area is reached, strive to reduce the impact of late sowing, and solidify the foundation for next year's summer grain production," said Lü Xiutao, Deputy Director of the Crop Production Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
