
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Recently, Cambodian National Assembly President Khun Socheat met with Brazilian Ambassador to Cambodia Vivian Los Sanmartin. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, economic and trade exchanges, and the regional peace situation.
During the meeting, Ambassador Sanmartin, on behalf of the Brazilian government, expressed deep condolences for the loss of life and property of Cambodian civilians caused by the recent border situation. She reiterated Brazil's firm support for resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute through peaceful means and the implementation of existing agreements.
Ambassador Sanmartin emphasized, "Neighboring countries cannot change geographical realities; therefore, peaceful negotiations based on international law are the only viable path to resolving territorial disputes." She praised Cambodia's efforts in seeking a peaceful solution.
Ambassador Sanmartin stated that during her term, she will fully promote enhanced communication between the two parliaments and facilitate people-to-people exchanges; with a focus on expanding cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, agriculture, tourism, sports, and gender equality.
President Khun Sokhonnavi expressed her strong agreement, noting that strengthening cooperation in these areas is of urgent practical significance in the current global context.
Regarding the global situation, President Khun Sokhonnavi pointed out that the world is currently facing multiple challenges, including geopolitical tensions and intensified economic competition, which are impacting the global order. In this context, strengthening bilateral and multilateral diplomacy is crucial for revitalizing multilateralism and maintaining global stability.
Regarding the situation on the Cambodia-Thailand border, President Khun Sokhonnavi expressed her gratitude for the Brazilian government's concern and just voice. She emphasized, "After decades of war, Cambodia deeply understands the preciousness of peace. Cambodia has no territorial ambitions, always prioritizes development, and has no intention of provoking conflict with any country."
She also pointed out that the recent conflict has caused a serious humanitarian crisis, including civilian casualties due to heavy weapons, large-scale displacement of people, and severe damage to schools, hospitals, and World Heritage sites.
At the conclusion of the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Cambodia-Pakistan friendship and agreed to jointly promote regional and global peace and prosperity through dialogue and international cooperation.
