Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – US President Donald Trump stated on December 10th that he will announce the list of members of the Peace Council early next year. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) issued a statement on the same day, stating that an Israeli Defense Forces tank fired on a peacekeeping convoy patrolling near the "Blue Line," the temporary border between Lebanon and Israel, on December 9th, fortunately without causing any casualties.
According to reports from Reuters and The Times of Israel, Trump announced this to reporters at an event held in the Roosevelt Room of the White House on December 10th. He reiterated that the Peace Council will be led by him and composed of leaders from many countries.
The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2803 on November 17th, enduring the US-proposed "20-point plan" to end the Gaza conflict, establishing the Peace Council, and forming an international stabilization force.
In a program broadcast on Al Jazeera Arabic on the evening of December 10th, Khalid Meshaal, a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), stated that the Peace Council is "fraught with danger." He emphasized, "We want Palestinians to lead Palestinians, and for Palestinians to decide who governs."
Meshaal stated that a consensus had previously been reached for a technocratic government to take over the Gaza Strip and achieve unification between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, but this was thwarted by the war and Israel's veto.
According to a statement from UNIFIL on December 10, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Merkava main battle tanks fired on a peacekeeping convoy patrolling near the Blue Line in Lebanon the previous day.
The statement said that, as is customary, the IDF had been informed of the patrol location and time in advance.
The Times of Israel quoted the IDF response as saying that it had clarified to UNIFIL that the fire was not directed at or towards UNIFIL, but rather to repel a threat in the region.
According to AFP, Israeli forces fired on UNIFIL peacekeepers in southern Lebanon on November 16. The Israeli military claimed that due to "adverse weather conditions," they mistook the peacekeepers for "suspects" and fired warning shots. According to Turkey's Anadolu Agency, under the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, Israeli troops were supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon in January 2025. However, in reality, only a partial withdrawal was made, and a military presence remains at five border posts. (End)
